Why AIBE XXI 2026?
The All-India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a mandatory national-level certification exam conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI) for law graduates, by examination earns law graduates a “Certificate of Practice (CoP)” mandatory for official law practice before court of law in India.
AIBE 21 (XXI) 2026: SCHEDULE
- Online registration starts: February 11, 2026
- Registration closes: April 30, 2026
- Last date for fee payment: May 1, 2026
- Form correction window closes: May 3, 2026
- Admit card release: ~May 22, 2026
- Exam date: June 7, 2026 (offline, OMR-based)
Exam Pattern & Format
- Mode: Offline (pen-paper OMR)
- Questions: 100 Multiple-Choice Questions
- Marks: 1 mark each, no negative marking
- Duration: ~3 hours 30 minutes
- Qualifying marks:
• 45% for General/OBC
• 40% for SC/ST/PWD candidates
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Indian citizen (OCI/PIO with Indian LLB eligible)
- Education: 3-year or 5-year LLB from a BCI-recognised university
- Bar Council Enrolment: Registration with a State Bar Council is required eventually to receive the CoP, though candidates can initially register without the enrolment certificate.
- Final year students: Eligible if no pending backlogs.
- Age limit: None.
Syllabus & Updates
- The syllabus includes core law subjects and has been updated to reflect new criminal law statutes such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
- Mandatory to practice: Law graduates must clear AIBE and obtain the Certificate of Practice (CoP) to formally practice law in courts across India.
- AIBE 2026 exam itself does not operate as an old-style open-book test, Bare Acts without added notes, comments, annotations, or study materials are allowed for reference during the test.
